Backup
You can choose default drives for both local backups and backups from partners.
We recommend setting the local default to Let Cucku Choose. Cucku
will try to store backups from one drive on a different drive if available.
This means that if a hard drive fails the backup will be safe on a different drive.
Changing the default drive for locations does not affect existing locations.
If you want to move an existing location use Backup Locations.
This tab also allows you to set the minimum free space for backups.
Cucku will stop backing up files locally and from your partner if free space
drops below this percentage. A warning will be displayed if this occurs -
you can either free up more space for backups or move the backup locations to a
drive with more free space available.
Local backup verification checks each file that Cucku has backed up locally to
ensure that it can be restored if necessary. This process runs weekly by default to
detect and correct any problems with your local backup.
Check Verify local backup now to check your local backup as soon as you click OK.
Remote backup verification checks each file that Cucku has backed up to a partner.
This process runs monthly by default. If Cucku detects a problem with a remote
backup then any affected files will be sent to the partner again as part of the verification process.
Check Verify next remote backup to check all files stored with your backup partner during the next remote backup.
You can pick three different ways to show remote progress:
- Transmit speed. Shows the speed that Cucku is sending or receiving files
in kbit/s (1,000 bits per second).
- File progress. As each file is sent or received this shows the size of the
current file and how many bytes have been sent or received. The display updates
automatically to show KB, MB and GB depending on the size of the file and
the current progress.
- Task progress. Shows overall progress for the current remote backup
(or remote restore).
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble connecting to a backup partner then
select the partner from the list and click Test Connection. Cucku
will attempt to communicate with your partner and if a connection
cannot be made then advice will be displayed to help you fix the problem.
It may be helpful to talk to your partner while testing the connection, and to
try testing the connection from both sides.
Click Write diagnostic log to Desktop to generate a log file with
detailed error information to your Desktop. This option will create a file
called Cucku Diagnostic Log.txt. If you are experiencing problems
with Cucku Backup our support department might ask you to send them this log to assist in solving the problem.
Click Copy settings to Desktop to create a ZIP file on your Desktop
containing your current settings and system information. You will only
need to use this link if you are asked to provide this information by Cucku Support.
Click Reset Settings to restore settings to their default values.
This will not affect your backup set, the files and folders included in your
backup, or your list of backup partners.
Account
Click Manage Account to sign-in to your Cucku Account at www.cucku.com.
Click this link to change your email address, password or preference for receiving email from Cucku.
Your Cucku Account keeps a safe
copy of your encryption keys so that they are always available when you
need to restore files or setup Cucku on a new PC. If you would like to
save a backup copy of your keys click Export Encryption Keys.
To restore keys from a backup click Import Encryption Keys.
Click Change Account to sign into a different Cucku Account. Your backup is tied
to your account so switching to a different account is not recommended once
you've started backing up files.
Check Remember Email Address and Password to store your Cucku Account login securely on
this computer. If this option is not checked then you'll need to sign in to your Cucku Account
each day and whenever Cucku starts up.
Check Send backup/restore statistics and messages to my Cucku Account to send information
to Cucku when you complete a backup or restore. Cucku will send the number of files and size of
each backup or restore but not the name or other details about the files. Cucku will also send
the text of each message displayed on the main screen (like Local Backup Completed...).
Performance
Network timeout is the number of seconds Cucku waits when trying to create a
connection to or waiting for a response from a backup partner.
The idle timeout controls the number of seconds Cucku waits before assuming that you're
not using your computer.
Simultaneous partner tasks controls the number of partners that are allowed to
connect to your computer at once. You can set this between 1 and 5. The default
value of three would allow three partners to backup to your computer at once. Note
that you must be using Cucku Backup Pro in order to have more than one active backup partner.
Check Attempt connection to partners that appear offline if a partner frequently
uses the invisible status in Skype. Invisible Skype contacts appear as if they are offline
and so Cucku will not attempt to connect to invisible contacts unless this setting is enabled.
If you don't want Cucku Backup to run when Windows starts then uncheck Run Cucku
Backup at startup. Cucku must be running in order to send or receive backups so
we recommend that you allow Cucku to start with Windows.
Connection
If you use a proxy server to connect to the Internet you can configure it on this
tab. Check Use proxy server for Internet connections and enter the host and
port of your proxy server. You can enter either an IP address or a host name for the host.
If your proxy server requires a username and password check enable proxy server
authentication and enter your credentials. Cucku will store your proxy server
credentials in an encrypted format.
Logs
The logs tab allows you to open the most recent log for local backup, local
verify, remove files, restore and remote backup. For remote backup pick the
partner first and then click Remote Backup Log to view the most recent log for that partner.
