Cucku Backup is designed to provide first class local backup. Many online backup products don't allow you to backup network drives or even external hard drives. It's even common to skip local backup entirely, so unless you take the time to backup several different ways the online backup is your only protection against disaster.
We believe that remote backup is essential but not sufficient. Cucku lets you backup external drives and even network drives. If you have several hard drives your best possible protection is to backup between drives - files from your C: drive are stored on your D: drive and vice versa. Cucku will setup your backup this way automatically when possible. If you buy an external drive later it's also easy to move your backup over.
With this setup if you loose a single drive you can restore from the local backup. Of course if you loose everything you've still got the peace of mind that remote backup provides - Cucku will send backups from each drive to your backup partner.

<insert cheesy comment="You must be cuckoo for not using Cucku!"> But seriously I have searched for quite awhile looking for a good peer-to-peer backup system and I've found it.

Michael Horowitz blogs on this topic over at CNet:
One obstacle to any backup scheme is organization. Regardless of the hardware or software involved, you need to be able to point to the files you wanted backed up. This requires some understanding of the file system and I don't see a way around that.
We struggled with this while developing Cucku Backup. When you setup Cucku we automatically include everything that most people want to backup. This works for well known folders (i.e. My Documents). It also works for common file type (i.e. all photos, regardless of where they're stored). It even works with your application (i.e. Thunderbird email is selected if you have Thunderbird installed). You can remove any items that you know you don't need.
Each item in the backup list can be edited, so if you know you don't need that Junk folder you can double-click My Documents and exclude it from the backup. If you're comfortable with the file system and know exactly what to backup you can also remove all of Cucku's defaults and drill down to specific files and folders.
One more quote from Michael's post:
Perhaps you've heard this before: there are only two types of hard disks--those that have failed and those that will.
